I went into the gameweek knowing I only had 10 available players, and it was slightly disappointing that only 3 of them returned. Unfortunately, I was on the wrong side of the Kane/Saka captaincy decision and this meant I scored 47 points for the week, which resulted in a red arrow of around 18k.

With 2 chips remaining, I’m planning on playing my BB in GW29 and my FH in GW32.

Hopefully all of my players return from the International break with no concerns and theres no further suprises from the press conferences. Looking at my side for GW29, I currently have 11 players who double, along with my single week players of Kane, and my Arsenal trio of Zinchenko, Ødegaard and Saka. Right now I’m planning on moving Zinchenko and Ødegaard out for Shaw and Fernandes for a -4. Man United have 3 double gameweeks between now and the end of the season, so tripling up on their assets looks like a good option.

I’m currently favouring captaining Mitoma as I really like Brighton’s 2 fixtures in the double. Rashford is vice.

Transfer summary; Likely Zinchenko and Ødegaard OUT for Shaw and Fernandes IN for -4 points

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 6 seasons ORs were 38k, 1k, 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW28 points: 54 (12 Top managers average 53) Total points: 1,825, Overall Rank: 39k, green arrow: 1k Team Value: £102.8m

I was hoping that fielding eleven players without a hit in a tricky blank week would set me up for a decent green… well, I was part right. I got a green arrow, but it was only a 1k increase. I won’t sniff at it, but it’s a little disappointing. I could have easily played with nine or ten and only been a couple of points down.

Ultimately, success in GW28 largely came down to captaincy. Saka comfortably outscored Kane’s single goal so, as I was on the wrong side of that decision, I’ll happily take whatever green I can get. Even if it’s a tiny one.

GW29

The international break matches might be over, but until we hear from all the managers the full picture isn’t entirely clear. As of right now, I still plan Bench Boost for GW29 – ideally with no more than an expected -4. I have unwanted flags hanging over Rashford and Botman, but I’m hoping both will be fine considering their ailments. There are other risks, of course. Mitoma has a long, late flight home and Toney could easily get a yellow in the first match and miss the second, but waiting for the perfect time to Bench Boost would likely see me crumble into ancient dust before I got around to hitting the button.

Big Gameweek ahead ahead and I thought I’d give you guys an insight of my thinking process!

First things first wildcard in gw28 was the right call. had I kept my team I would have had 2 benched players and surely wouldn’t have gotten a 34k green arrow to 100k.

GW29 is proving to be more difficult to manage than initially planned. The international break has thrown us a couple of curve balls. To start I have 4 flagged players so playing the BB is in jeopardy unless I get confirmation that my players are good to go. I believe Rashford, Havertz and Botman will be fine. Cash there is not chance he plays which is really bad as I initially had Mings in the team and got him out 20mins before deadline so now i have to commit to an extra -4 (Mings also outscored cash in GW28)

Transfer plans

initial plan was Saka and Odegaard to March and Bruno Fernandes but the Cash injury destroys this plan. I have enough in the bank to make Odegaard to Bruno Fernandes so definitely doing this transfer.

If I play the BB chip I will also be getting in Shaw or Lissandro Marinez for Cash for a -4. Reason I am thinking Lissandro is because in 30 I plan to get Haaland in from Havertz with the downgrade of Saka. If I go the Shaw route I am left with 4.9mil and so cant get Solly March! If I go Lissandro I have enough to get March to complete my double Brighton Mids for the run of doubles they have.

So I will be likely BBing with 13 doublers along with Kane and Saka. Will
confirm on twitter

Captain is either Rashford or Bruno Fernandes. Safe bet is Rashford, Bruno is the more explosive one which although I like I don’t want to sit around watching Rashford with more than 100 EO for 180mins

Transfer summary: Odegaard OUT to Fernandes IN. Other transfers to be confirmed

Andrew Whitfield

Andrew’s last 5 seasons overall ranks were 119k, 34k, 132k, 6k and 19k

Gameweek 28 review:

It’s seems a long time ago, but before we look forward to the big upcoming double gameweek, and peruse the FPL landscape, first a glance back at GW28.

Only seven games took place, as six teams sat it out in FA cup quarter final weekend, but there were plenty of goals and only Aston Villa managed a clean sheet. Well done if you owned a Villa defender !!

Arsenal took advantage of Man City’s cup distraction to increase their lead at the top to a healthy eight points, with a comfortable stroll against Palace, with Saka proving to be the star of the gameweek and those giving him the armband were definitely the big winners of the week.

Spurs let slip a 3-1 lead v bottom team Southampton, which prompted a Conte rant and his inevitable exit, relegation strugglers Leeds beat Wolves 4-2, Isak was the hero with a brace for Newcastle at Forest, Havertz rewarded the transfers in for him with a goal but Chelsea were held 2-2 by Everton, Villa had a 3-0 cruise v Bournemouth, with just an assist for Watkins, who was the most popular Haaland replacement and Brentford shared the spoils with Leicester.

There was plenty happening in the FA cup too with another Haaland hat trick spooking those who have sold him until GW30 for one of those strikers playing three times to his one. Mitrovic was one of three Fulham red cards at Old Trafford, after manhandling the referee, where it was Bruno at the double, and Brighton scored five to further enhance the appeal of those Seagulls attackers.

My GW28 score and rank:

It was a low scoring gameweek, summed up by the fact I had just 4/11 returners, but still managed to escape with a small green arrow.

I scored 54 points, with an un captained Saka haul being fairly rank neutral to me, a goal for my captain Kane, a Watkins assist and a crucial Martinelli goal being just enough to see green.

In a tricky blank week with only seven fixtures, where putting 11 shirts on the pitch was supposedly the exception and an advantage, which I did, I was hoping for better. But a green arrow is never to be sniffed at.

A rank rise from 230k to 212k, which I will take as it means back to back green arrows, up from 357k over the last two weeks, a decent comeback after a poor run of four red arrows that had proceeded it, having been at 120k at GW22.

I am hoping for a hat trick of green arrows to maintain the momentum with my bench boost very likely to be in play this week, barring a late spurt of injuries.

My GW28 significant moments:

It was a huge 12 points captain swing between Saka and Kane ( if owning both and captaining one ). I had initially earmarked Saka for the Palace fixture until his tired performance in his previous game and Kane’s brace. The polls were heavily in Kanes favour and in truth I didn’t come close to putting the armband on Saka. Well done if you did.

I had chosen Martinelli over Odegaard on my GW26 wildcard, knowing he was a short term gamble for his explosiveness with other attackers injured, over the more nailed long term pick Odegaard, with a planned likely move out in the upcoming double GW29. I also took Zinchenko over the more secure Gabriel for the very same reason, knowing he was likely leaving my team in GW29.

So to see both Martinelli and Zinchenko play 120 minutes in the Europa league that proceeded the Palace game made me very nervous about their participation and vulnerable to both Odegaard and Gabriel owners. In the event, Martinelli and Zinchenko both started and Martinelli’s goal with Odegaard blanking was decisive and the difference between green and red. How Odegaard did everything but score, I will never know. Very fortunate !!

I very nearly pulled off an unexpected Zinchenko gain over Gabriel too after I had feared the reverse. Zinchenko was all set for an early 63rd minute exit to bank his clean sheet, until his departure was delayed by Arsenal conceding a corner – which they duly conceded from, before he then trooped off. Almost a very significant slice of luck in my favour. But it wasn’t meant to be.

Like most people, I failed to land a clean sheet. The double Newcastle clean sheet fell on a Botman slip, and a double Chelsea clean sheet disappointingly fell too after looking good until well into the second half, with a potential Chilwell haul including bonus points disappearing.

I had three big opportunities to strike a blow against other managers. Most engaged managers had sold Haaland, including me. Many left it there, played with ten men and rolled the second transfer for GW29 flexibility so Chilwell was a great opportunity against those that rolled.

Henry of Brentford was an opportunity over those who sold him instead of a Brighton defender to play ten men with longer term gains in mind. And Zinchenko was an opportunity against those who moved him on a week early due to fitness concerns. All three of Chilwell , Henry and Zinchenko failed to land me vital points over those who had chosen to forego short term points for the bigger picture. I played the gameweek in front of me but didn’t reap the advantage.

I am not sure a Watkins assist offered me enough comfort against that decision to sell Haaland for him. But he does still have two games to Haaland’s one before I buy the Norwegian back.

So what next:

Love it or hate it, the international break has been a chance to unwind with a two week gap between FPL games. And a time to hope and pray that players avoid injury.

With a 15 man squad, and 11 starters, one or two injuries cropping up are usually pretty manageable, but with a lot of managers planning to bench boost this week, every player is really needed and every injury crucial, as it could trigger additional hits, or even postpone using the bench boost.

It’s a unique situation, as we often Wildcard straight into a bench boost the following week, with less chance of mishaps. Not only was my wildcard to set up the GW29 doublers done way back in GW26 ( due to the additional benefits that it brought in GW27-28 ) but an international break adding to the pre bench boost stress too is unique and far from ideal !!!

For those with a wildcard left, wildcarding in GW33 straight into a bench boost GW34 is certainly less fraught with danger, particularly now we have had the GW34 double announcements over the break, with the GW28 blanks for the FA cup quarters now confirmed in GW34.

The press conferences on Friday will be eagerly awaited for news of players impacted by injury scares or long travel returns. Rashford and Haaland are the most significant yellow flags so far at time of writing that may impede our plans. But Matty Cash is inured, with Havertz and Botman carrying flags too from leaving their international camps early through illness.

At time of writing, Rashford and Botman are my two flags and I remain hopeful they will be ready to play – and fingers crossed no more issues arise affecting my squad.

Bench boost GW29:

GW29 will now be the biggest double gameweek of the season with TWELVE teams playing twice. My plan remains to make two transfers ( at a cost of -4 ) to bench boost with 13 double gameweek players and two singles ( possibly Kane and Saka ) to give me 28 potential games for my 15 man bench boost squad including doubles for both my keepers. More on my transfer plans below.

I have four single game players. Kane and three Arsenal players. I could easily bench boost with just 11 doublers when my Arsenal trio have Leeds at home. GW27 bench boosters did very well out of boosting three single game Arsenal players away to Fulham, and Leeds at home is a fantastic fixture for those Arsenal players this week.

But my preference currently is to turn two of my Arsenal players into doublers, particularly with Arsenal having no doubles left and some tough fixtures on the horizon.

What no Haaland ?

Not owning Erling Haaland for the first time this season ( and probably the only time !! ) will be both unthinkable and nerve wracking. That’s assuming he shakes off the injury. That’s uncertain at time of writing. The narrative of course was three games of Watkins to one of Haaland but it doesn’t make it feel any more comfortable, before Haaland comes back in to my team in GW30.

Haaland is first game up so at least we get it out of the way and have 11 days of games to recover any damage that might result. It won’t be an easy watch. There is comfort in the fact that his ownership amongst engaged managers this week will be significantly lower than normal and with minimal captaincy too.

One thing you definitely need to bear in mind is your route back to Haaland in GW30 without spending the money in the bank from his sale when it’s needed to get him back. As a Kane owner, I don’t want to sell Kane as part of that process, so I need to make sure I keep sufficient back in my GW29 transfer planning to bring Haaland back for Toney instead in GW30 with the Brentford man on those nine yellow cards and his betting ban looming too. Make sure you have your Haaland back plan in place, which preferably does not mean having to sell Kane.

Choosing a double gameweek captain won’t be straight forward either. It’s sensible to captain a player who plays twice. The four M’s – Maddison, March, Mitoma and Maccalister, as well as Bruno or Rashford, are bound to be popular. But don’t rule out an Arsenal player going big v Leeds. Or Kane.

My Free hit plans:

I am fairly set on Free Hit GW32 to follow up bench boost GW29, thereby using my final two “chips”. Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Brighton will miss GW32 due to the FA cup semis. I am well stocked on their players who will also be attractive to own as three of them double in GW29, and they will have double gameweeks in GW34 and GW37. I can freely attack upcoming double opportunities from these teams, and not have to worry about their blank in GW32, with nice doubles either side.

The fixtures in GW32 for the free hit also allow me to attack Arsenal v Southampton ( when I have reduced my Arsenal contingent) and Liverpool v Forest with triple ups on both.
