Over the years, Koch has received a number of awards including an Emmy award, and she has had the opportunity to travel to Jamaica, China, and West Africa. While Denise covered Baltimore’s search for an NFL team in Chicago sports fans went with her. She also covered the Ravens’ quest for the Super Bowl trophy in Tampa. When she first joined the WJZ station, she was on “Evening Magazine” where she tacked sports. In addition, Denise served as a lifestyle reporter who reviewed plays and films as she filled stories twice a day on the arts and creative side of life.

The series she did was showcased at the National Post Office in the nation’s capital and at museums.

For her documentary on Baltimore teachers in China, “Baltimore East,” she was awarded a prize by The Society of Professional Journalists. California is Denise’s native home and she attended the University of California and while she was there, she earned the prestigious Natalie Wood Award for her talents. Furthermore, Denise studied at the universities California Institute of the Arts and she later received her master’s from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
For Koch’s acting career, she went to theatres around the country and also to the soap opera “Another World.” Finally, she went to Center Stage where she served as a manager and she has also served as a teacher at the University of Wisconsin and University of Michigan. In addition, she has worked at WJZ for over 20 years and she is among the most respected broadcast journalists in town. Furthermore, Denise has been on the advisory boards of the Hospice Network of Maryland and the Maryland Committee for the Children.
Koch is a founding member of the Women’s Leadership Institute of Baltimore. The institute consists of a panel of women who are supported by Maryland’s only women’s college Notre Dame University, and who are devoted to working for gender equality. Denise has also served as a member of the Howard County Arts Council for 10 years and as of the moment, she is a board member of the United Way of Central Maryland and is a member of their women’s leadership council.
